Dawn Hunt
Food binds us all, no matter what we practice or believe. When you create a meal of your loved one’s favorite dish, you are creating food and kitchen magic. When you heat up or cook chicken soup to soothe a cold, the intention you put into it as you stir is that of comfort and health because you know this meal will make you feel better. But if you’re rushing to get dinner on the table, you and your family will take in all that negativity you have just put into the food. This is the foundation of kitchen magic.
Anyone can add elements of kitchen and food magic to their daily lives. Most of us already do and don’t even know it. If you are Italian like me, or have ever been to an Italian friend’s for Sunday dinner, you know we eat when we are happy, sad, and everything in between. As I grew up, I learned about cooking and baking from my family. I saw how decorating cookies for the holidays became ritualistic and how the love I put into preparing these treats directly affected people who ate them. I guess you could say I am a Kitchen Witch from a long line of Kitchen Witches, who never knew there was such a thing. One day I came across a book on kitchen magic and was shocked that there was actually a name for what I was doing all my life!
